Moon over Scott's Bluff
by Richard Teller
This is Scott's Bluff National Monument near Scottsbluff, NE. I went out with a whole different image at sunset in mind. Some clouds moved in low over the horizon and took away that really nice soft light. I started to leave and as I was heading back to the truck, as I got to a point where I could see around the end of the butte, there was the full moon just coming up over the buttes. Just enough light left to shoot some images and be able get a good exposure on the moon.
This is a very historical spot. Many thousands of people and wagons passed between these two buttes during westward expansion of this country. Three main trails funneled here, the Oregon Trail, the Morman Trail, The California Trail, plus the Pony Express came through the pass between these two buttes. The ruts from the wagon wheels were so deep that you can still see them in some places. Just a little history of the place.
