Backyard Battle

After going out Monday and capturing a handheld grab shot of the previously posted hummer, I thought I would set up in the backyard with my tripod. This time I got to watch the behaviors of the hummers going to and from our feeders. I noticed some bees in the bush where the Allen's (same one I think) was perching frequently. I got lucky and captured this image. A 50% crop and not as sharp as my last posting but I thought the action was fun.

Harry. I like it! Maybe not as sharp as your last post, but the behavior is great. These kinds of shots are petty rare and you've done a fine job capturing it.

Great action shot. The comp and colors are very good. I would love to have this in my files.

Lots of fun, Skip. Looks like the hummer was a bit surprised.

Harry, this is beautiful. With those colors and the beauty of the perch and the bird and then with the bee added it doesn't even look real (and I mean that in a very good way).

Excellent timing to get this, I like the hummer pose and the iridescent red gorget color combined with the green on the head. A little on the bright side but still a very nice image. Nice job in getting this, way to go.

Smoking photo Harry  Great inter-action between the two and perfect timing on your side of the camera.

Very nice inter action of the hummer and the bee -- I like the litup gorget and the open beak in anticipation of the next action. Sharp and colorful

Sweet shot Harry, super interaction. The bird looks plenty sharp to me. Maybe you would have needed a bit more dof for the bee. Very cool! :toast:

Great catch! Looks as if the hummer is scolding the bee.
Seems a bit bright to me... maybe just this monitor.
Excellent!

what a cool shot, Skip! this is great action--love the flared gorget, open bill, raised wing and of course the bee that is provoking it. it's a great perch and comp too. this one looks a little on the bright side.

Awesome! Good thing you chose to set up the tripod  ! I don't think the detail is too bad, but I guess it can never hurt to have more  . Great that you got all the action frozen.

Hey Skip,
Very cool image. If you look closely at the beak close to the mouth it almost looks like the hummer is just finishing chomping down another bee. Looks like part of a wing is sticking out. Very cool. Love that you got both the bee and the hummer sharp with good detail. Looks a little bit bright on my work monitor (never calibrated). To me this is a really rare type of capture. Don't see this everyday, do ya? Very, very nice. Hope to shoot again with you real soon.
