Cold Cometh

As with my last post, still picking through old photos as I pine for spring to finally arrive. This is from November of 2008, taken on a misty day that had a cold bite to it. I posted this in the Pacific Northwest Forum at that time, but can't remember posting it here.

john, i think this is exquisite -- mostly because of the fine detail in a whole range of tones. your comp is stellar to me and i really like the contrast in shapes between the bending grass and the sharp trees. :toast:

Very nice indeed, John. The finished processing here has some quality and looks of a fine art painting.....

Beautiful scene and image, John. I think a crop off the bottom might help.

This is just wonderful John. The shapes, textures, comp, and muted colors make this a really excellent image for me! Well seen! :toast:

exquisite colour and detail (your sharpening for web has to be second to none ...). the colours are gorgeous - particularly the flecks of green in the grass and the tree transition from green to gold. nice one.

Lovely colors and mood, John. The green trees sticking out really work well in this one.

Beautiful, John. Quite dreamy and painterly. I might add a touch more room at the top to give the right tree a smidge of breathing room and I like Jeffrey's crop suggestion, but very minor. Real sweet.

Nice processing John. The composition is pretty strong except maybe a little more room at the top as mentioned. Colors look great. I'm really looking forward to spring too.....been a long, uninspired winter season........for me at least.

I'll toss in my opinion... The comp looks great to me. I feel that if the sky was more visible, then there might be too much grey, and the trees would become the center of attention, whereas I like the grass being the main attraction, with the trees adding context and interest.

BTW, the processing is incredible. I'm glad you posted it here!

Man that's nice! The rich warm autumn color in the grasses is just gorgeous. Just a tiny bit tight on the sides and top around the trees for me, but a minor detail. I love it!

The somber tones of November ring true here John and they are lovely. I love the misty details amplified in the larger version especially in the mid ground grasses. Beautiful capture.

You're choice of a square crop was a great decision John. It gives the image a very strong sense of balance. If it was horizontal or vertical, it would have disrupted the balance between foreground and background. What further strengthens this image is the way the foreground grass matches the wonderful fall colors in the background. It helps the green trees stand out, and gives a wonderful sense of layers. I wouldn't have thought to compose the trees that close to the edge, but it totally works here. Instead of giving the image unwanted visual tension, it helps keep my eye toward the middle of the composition. No nits from me on this one -- it has a very nice calm feel.

Love this the foreground in seems unneccessarily large when you look at the thumbnail but when you open it up the structure reveals itself and ironically almost overwhelms the back drop. Really very nice and atmospheric.

amazing view John, you did a great job here, maybe a little room from the top would be better (IMO)

This is beautiful, John. The manner in which you've placed the trees really balances this
composition. The foreground with its various colors, lines, and textures is my favorite part
of the image. The mistiness renders a nice mood also.

Wonderful, the range of color and detail is impressive. And composition works very well, with the grey sky fitting in. Bottom works very well for me with the subtle lines.
