Saw them for the first time yesterday on the island in Lizzy's pond. Today they came to visit us in our back yard. We would like to know how they carry the chicks? I shot these with a Nikon D7000 ISO 1600 1/400 F5.6 270mm

Well done capturing the family in the open like this, especially with rather modest focal length. There is some softness I'm detecting in the image, might just be the slim dof, or a function of cropping? I would like to see a bit more room around the subjects, especially in front of the adult - just my esthetic though. I have no idea how the youngsters got to the mainland from the island - do they get tucked up under the wing perhaps? Or, are they even the same birds you saw on the island?

It was cropped to show the chicks. After appearing on our land they moved on to another area where we could not see them and the next time I saw them they were back on the island. I had hoped to capture them returning, but it was out of sight.
