After an interesting discussion a few days ago on another photo I decided to try out Helicon Focus. I have never really messed with multiple focuses before so this is my first attempt. This is 8 shots blended in HF. I must not have all the parameters set correctly because I had to fix the focus in one area that the software missed. At any rate, it is interesting to be able to open up the lens and get the nice blurry BG and still get the entire flower in focus (or close anyway). There was a little wind so I bumped the ISO to get a little faster shutter.

I found these guys, rare here in Indiana, while out on a hike in the forest last week. Comments and suggestions welcome.

D7000, 105mm f/2.8 macro lens, f/3.3, 1/80 sec., ISO 640

Nicel arranged within the frame. I wish a bit better overall clarity and a litle bit better upper part focusing. Otherwise nicely done indeed.

I believe these flowers are quite rare in PA also; lucky you to have found some growing in the wild. They are such an interesting and unique flower. Technically I would wish for more focus on some of the flowers and the bottom of the stem looks a little strange, but hey, who am I to comment? I haven't tried stacking yet! Looks like a great first attempt to me! I like your diagonal comp and the colors in the blurred BG.

Tough to shot photos for stacking when the wind is blowing. I would have liked to see all of the flowers in focus and a little more blur on the background.

It's a nice image with a really lovely background, Walt. Yes, the main flowers might be a touch sharper in places - I'm guessing that the stack might have accentuated the effects of the breeze. Beautifully composed.

Hi Walt !!! I like the composition and the colors, the detail is passible, if the stack were done outside in a slight wind.
