Sunrise Sliver

Taken on the cobble beach of St Ann's Bay, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada on a very gray morning at sunrise. I was lucky to get that little sliver of light when I did since it disappeared shortly after and I was soon engulfed in a cold autumn rain that persisted most of the day.

Canon 5DM2
Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II at 33mm
ISO100 20sec f/22
SR2-Stop Reverse Gradient

Thanks for having a look.

This conveys a grey morning at the beach very well. The featureless sky adds to this feeling and provides some simplicity to to the composition. Good work Eva!

Love the look and feel of this very much! The large version makes me feel like I'm right there feeling the cool damp air and hearing the sounds of water going over the rock. You really captured the mood and feel of this morning, Eva.

To heck with the sunrise sliver, I'm fascinated with the gorgeous rocks in the FG, and the effect of the long shutterspeed! Fabulous! :toast:
I think you could have just concentrated on the FG, maybe still with a wide angle, but I really like the color and texture of the rocks with the water flow over them. Very cool.

I like the foreground rocks and the misty appearance of the water. The sliver of sunrise light adds just a bit of interest to the image and keeps my eye moving around the scene.

Well, you know i ike the classical balance here--not real crazy about the milky sea though. Aside from my personal bias, a nice shot. :wavey:

there's a stark contrast between the details of the rocks and the featureless sky and water, the sliver of light adds much - joining as it does with the island.

Eva,

A bit moody and almost somber as a result of the conditions, but I think that serves this one well. As much as I like the stones, I'm more drawn to the "length" of this, the horizon and the little bit of mystery in the water. And for that, I'm looking at a pano crop, removing some off the bottom (to above the white marked specs on in the LRC and about half the sky. Not much up top is adding here. Of course just my thought and opinion, but perhaps an alternate view. That sliver of light on the horizon does play a nice role here.

My favorite part is the rocks poking out of the "fog" on the right hand side. In fact, a close up of that area would make for a fascinating abstract.
