The Future

I spent a great morning with camera in hand a few weeks ago while visiting my dad and stepmom in Florida. My hectic life doesn't afford me too many opportunities to get away so when I can I really appreciate it. There is no doubt that nature and photography are my "refresh" buttons! All comments & critiques welcome.

Canon 1D Mark IIN (soon to be 5D Mark III!)

ISO500, f8, 1/1000 sec
Gitzo tripod with Wimberly head, standing in the bed of my truck along a fairly busy road.

This is great, Kirk. I love that gnarly looking nest. Nice job giving us a look at the eyes on all three birds. A great image.

What luck to find an accessible eagle's nest! Most are so high in trees that one can barely find them, let alone get a good angle.
You got a great look at the adult and chicks here - they very rarely cooperate all at the same time.
I'm curious about this tree - looks like the root ball of a downed tree, but that would be much lower than eagles usually choose to nest ?

Fine image!

Superb detail in the larger image, Kirk and the chicks are great. Nice to get such a horizontal angle on an eagle's nest.

Sandy, the nest is in an approximately 20' tall dead tree about 40-50 yards off the road. I stood in the bed of my truck to reduce the viewing angle as much as possible.

Fine environmental image. I have never been in a situation where I could get this nice an angle of an eagle nest. The exposure is handled very well and the comp is nice.

I almost over looked this image, wasn't expecting this degree of detail - very nice. I really like this nest, attractive setting for the family portrait. The dark sky really helps in the scenario.
