My suburban area is suddenly awash with magnolias in unseasonably warm weather.

My first impression? Magnolia bud raising from the fog. Wery well composed and presented. I like also the nice frame which fits very well to this photo.

I like the unusual composition. At first glance of the icon, I didn't appreciate what seems to me like a flower in the foreground completely blurred out. After having seen the larger image I think it works. I get the feel of a nice soft gradient between the two prominent colors with the very sharp accent of the bud as the focal point. This exudes a sense of depth in what might have otherwise been a flat background with a flower in front. Nicely done. Something I probably wouldn't have thought to do myself. The color is immense.

Your image makes me think the magnolia swirled like a cyclone to arise from the pink mist. Taking action shots now? Seriously, nice take on this magnolia. Different and pleasing presentation.

I think you nailed this cram Ian. The little bit of texture works nicely in the pinks, and the color transitions to the bud perfectly.
