Spring Delight

A California Poppy at a local park relatively close to my home. A couple years ago, I spent several mornings at this park in March/April shooting the poppies...the best of those shots were posted here on NPN. I returned last year to do the same, but found cows and sheep in place of the poppies. This year the grazing hasn't yet begun (though I'm told it's not far off). So for now at least, the poppy displays are spectacular in portions of the park.

It's been quite a while since I've posted in this gallery but I hope you'll all forgive me for that. I return from time to time to view the work posted here and always come away inspired by the quality and variety. This is the first of what I hope will be several shots that I'll post during the course of this spring. I greatly appreciate any and all comments!

Canon 5DII, Tamron 90mm at f/4.5 for 1/80 second (ISO 100).

Love the soft warm shades of orange, and the mix of green/orange makes a great BG for this.
I especially like the narrow DOF/point of focus at the flowers center, nicely done! :toast:

I think you did an excellent focusing job here, Phil and I love seeing the whole shape of the flower (mine are normally profile shots). I am jealous that you have these growing hear you! Excellent bg to show the field of blooms with excellent separation.
I have been away for a while, too. Welcome back!

I like this Phil but it feels like th BG is competing with the FG in terms of saturation. Maybe a bit less saturation in the BG would do the trick.

All is forgiven if you post shots like this Phil. These are a favorite of mine to photograph as well but they don't grow were we now live so I will do without this year ! :frown: This is so sunny and rich and the focus is just perfect. Beautiful work ! :toast:

A flower that I never get to photograph here :frown: . You are an expert at photographing these flowers, anything less than spectacular frames would be tough to imagine. This is lovely - just the right angle for the frontal petal to fall on itself thereby showing the center. :toast:

Nicely arranged and well separated from slightly blured BG. I like the overall color combination. Well done Phil.

This is just gorgeous Phil. I love the color and the DOF is wonderful. The details in the center of the flower is excellent.
