Rookery at St. Augustine Alligator Farm
Raw, LR3, CS5

Another effort from the rookery. The vegetation behind the bird is a bit further away than for the tricolored heron, but there may still be way too much vegetation here (hence my post in the Bird Photography forum about how to do better at rookeries like this).

Comments, opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Barbara, great detail and a good pose make this picture. I do think you need to haul back on the saturation.and brighten up some. You have plenty of room before you reach the white gamut, except for a small sliver along the back, which can be handled easily. Plus the subject can easily be separated as a second layer where you can concentrate on the BG.

Another very good shot Barbara. I guess I am in the minority but I think the BG reflects the natural environment of the bird so I do not find it distracting. I would agree on the saturation being just a bit too much on this one. I do love these birds.

Thanks, Phil and Walt. Here is a repost with the saturation pulled back a bit and a bit brighter.

A really nice comp Barbara. Repost saturation looks very natural to me. BG vege is not an issue for me. I like it.

Nice capture Barbara! BG vegitation is not a problem for me. You captured the subject in it's enviroment. I will be traveling to the Alligator Farm first week in May and I hope these guys are still around.

The repost fixed my issues with the original. The setting here is fine as you have good separation of subject/BG and the BG itself is more uniform.

The background looks fine to me, Barbara. Nice pose and very nice detail. The saturation on the repost looks much more natural. Great job.

I do not think the vegetation background takes away from the image and I like the 2nd post with the more natural looking colors. Very nice detail through out the bird from legs to beak, not an easy thing to do, well done.

Love the comp and the detail you captured Barbara. The repost is a better presentation of this very neat shot IMO.
