Star Magnolia Bloom

by Patricia Brundage

Gallery: FloraPosted March 25, 2012168 views19 comments
Was able to isolate a few blooms of my neighbor's star magnolia tree. Taken on a fairly breezy day with Canon 7D, using 100-400 IS lens. Like the colors in the background almost as much as the bloom.

Comments please.

Wonderful chromatic contrast and a skillful exposure job on this image- The almost squared composition is perfect as well- An excellent job on this tough subject, Fabio

'Medusa-like' petals here Patricia. I like the tones, and the BG is very nice.

Gorgeous, Patricia. Expertly composed to expose the center, and the BG doesn't get any better. The square comp is perfect for the symmetry of the blossom. :toast:

I agree with you, Pat, that the bg is exceptional. I really like how you were able to get all the petals in focus. It's such a wild-looking flower, I would think that would be difficult. The peek in to the center is very well placed. Beautifully done!

Fine photo of a very strange looking flower. The dof is great and really shows off that nest of petals.

Gorgeous! I just love the different varieties of magnolias!
Great perspective here to catch all the wayward petals in a very pleasing position . The peek at the center is terrific, and, like you, I also love the BG.
