This is an image I took near the end of last fall -- by Sundance, Utah. I welcome any comments or critiques.

Larger version included.

I like this a lot. The sprawling oak helps fill the frame and provides some very nice lines to follow through out the frame. The fall colors are a plus. :toast:

This is one of these images that NEEDS to be printed big -msybe 30 by 40. I have some idea what that would look like with 4x5 - 5x7 can only be better.

By the way what are you using for color film? Last time I checked, it was getting pretty scarce, although findable.

Andrew, I like the fall color in this very much, but what I really enjoy is how you framed all of these branches in your composition. Really well done! This has a wonderful feel to me. The large version really helps show this off, and I bet a large print would look fantastic! :toast:

Hmmm, interesting Andrew. I like the colors and the three pronged tree, but the BG seems too busy for me. It would be nice to see the three prongs isolated a little more.

Busy, but also surprisingly calm. There's a lot going on here, but it's mostly repetition of a few elements, so it works quite nicely.

Enchanting indeed!

I love shots like this but I find them very difficult to compose. You've done a terrific job finding order in chaos.

The colors are wonderful and the comp is right on. I really like the shapes and the complexity of all the intersecting branches. Really is great in large. Thanks for sharing.

The light looks a little harsh but the composition makes up for it. Nice work!

Nice job of capturing the essence of a challenging scene. Great composition and really focused attention on the color that is a small percentage of the image. Good job.

Thanks for the comments so far, everyone. I know at this size it could feel busy, but I've found that this type of composition feels just right in a large print.

Dan Borzynski, I ordered a ton of Provia and Velvia from Japan a couple years ago. Looks like it's not available anymore (in 5x7). I could cut down 8x10, but I'm not too keen on doing that, plus that will be out soon as well. I'm going to shoot it til it's gone, and for after that I've got a D800E on pre-order.

Andrew, I appreciate the subtlety of your image and the way the trunks make for a kind of order within the chaos of the background. Processing is spot on to my eye, it must be impressive as a large print.

Andrew,

I almost missed this. Fantastic photograph. Thew backlighting works perfectly for this subject giving each and every branch perfect contrast and separation from the others. The composition flows nicely and is very engaging. You also did a great job of controlling the light.

Beautiful. A large print of this would be something to behold.
