In spite of the amount of crop (almost all background) I was too close to get the legs. I really like these birds and the way their heads and bills look, even as common as they are, so I tried for a portrait. I don't know if this bird is suited for a portrait or if the crop is suitable for a portrait.

All comments, opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

love this, Barbara. the dark bg sets off the bird really nicely, and the eye and bill really pop out. detail looks good for the crop. I think any large wader lends itself awfully well to portraits. I think the comp works well--I could go a little tighter (except in front) but since you've already cropped quite a bit, probably best to stay where you are.

Well done Barbara. I think this is a fine portrait, and despite of the crop the detail has held up well. Good job!!

Way to go, Barbara. Really nice image. Sharp with great detail. The eye is just perfect in color and that little flash of light. I like the dark background.

I think this portrait works very nice, wonderful contrast between background and bird to make the ibis stand out more, a blue eye that draws me into the image to check out the rest of the portrait detail, well seen and well done.

I just love the ibis - what goofy-looking birds.
Nice catch of this juvie. Fine detail that shows the little pinfeathers still on the head.
Just fine as is, but if you have the pixels, a tighter crop with less of the shoulders might work even better.

I think the portrait works very well here, Barbara. The blue of those eyes really have high visual impact on the large version of the image. I like the detail and the black bg too.
