This is a Baltimore Oriole, just not sure if a juvenile, or first year, due to the brownish coloring and speckled head??

shot with Nikon d700 thru a window, with 70-200mm 28 at F5, 200 mm, sso,200, 1/100th. Hand Held.

thanks for your comments.

Hi Sally, a beautiful bird with a great perch and nice bg. I think that the image quality suffered from shooting through a window, if this is at a feeder you might consider opening the window and waiting quietly--the birds will probably come even with the window open. compositionally I do think that the bird needs more room at right to look into, might not be too difficult to add some canvas if you don't have it in the original.

Brian covered my critique. Lovely colors and BG, but the detail is soft.

Can only agree with the above comments, Sally. The image just doesn't seem sharp enough, and I would have liked the head turned the other way with the way you framed this.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, and I really knew this when I posted it.. was trying to salvage it.. Guess I have to be a big girl, and realize for me to get to the next level with my photography I have to work harder at getting the good shots, use my tripod more, and move away from the point and shoot mentality... please be patient........ I KNOW I will get there!

Keep the faith! We all (or almost all, certainly ME) started out with much to learn here.
I echo what the others have said - a nice bird in a good pose, but with some "issues".
You have a good eye to have seen this, now enter the "learn and grow" stage seriously. You'll improve rapidly, with some work.

I think you did a great job at 1/100th and handheld Sally. I wouldn't even attempt it myself though.
I see you've been well "critiqued" already so enough said.
Overall a pleasing shot IMO. Have a great Sunday!:wavey:

After reading all the remarks and your reaction I am convinced we will see more of your shots in the future: since you have such wonderful species to start with   ... Cheers, & keep them coming ! Hans

I also agree with Brian's critique of this image Sally. Never good to shoot through glass if you can avoid it.

I agree with the comments from Brian, but in addition, the orange seems a bit hot...especially on the top left of the chest....but with that said, I do like how clean the BG is and the diagonal perch in your comp. I agree with Brian about opening the window would eleviate many of the issues.
