Blowing a rasberry?

Thanks for the comments on my last post. Here's a Pere David's deer, taken in Margam park this week. I think this deer is passing comment! Another overcast day in sunny Port Talbot!

I used a rental 300mm f/2.8 mk1 and a 2x Mk3 extender for this photo. I'm deciding on which big glass to invest in and I'm very impressed with this setup. I'm hearing good things about the mk2 300mm f/2.8 and the 2x extender mk3 combo. Most of my work is hide based and I'm not a BIF man, so I'm leaning heavily towards this lens.

Techs: Canon 7D, EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM & 2x extender mk3. ISO 400, f/8, 1/500th sec, aperture priority mode, slight crop around 10%. Tripod and gimbal. Imported with ACR, processed in CS5. NR with Nik Dfine.

C's & c's appreciated as always.

Thanks.

Paul.

Nice shot of the Pere David deer. Great facial expression! These deer have quite a conservation story behind them. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice photo of a species of deer that I'm not familiar with. Great exposure, excellent detail on the animal itself and a BG nicely out of focus so he stands out. Complementary color palette. Very interesting deer with antlers that don't seem to have anything that matches on either side and, on top of that, he looks pregnant. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments both.

They are a very unusual looking species and they have quite a history as you say John. I'm very lucky to have a group as part of a conservation effort fairly local to where I live. This one looks like he's been enjoying life to excess, but they are lean machines during the rut!

Thanks for looking. :wavey:

Hi Paul, nice to see a specimen that we don't often see here; in fact it might be the first appearance of this species here. Unfortunately for the species you are not exactly portraying it at its best with this silly pose. But it is a funny one! Techs look excellent. I don't own the 300/2.8, but you are right you only hear good things about that lens, I am sure you will not regret the purchase.
