Letting things go

This shot was taken in Smoky Mountains National Park in the new year morning. I was greeted with very overcast conditions and walking around I found this withering tree (shrub) amidst the other green trees. This caught my attention and to me represents a way of life and nature. With the mist in the background and the green trees providing the necessary framing, I thought this has to captured. I would love to know your thoughts on this. Both C&C appreciated.

The mist gives this a lot of depth Karthick. Very intriguing image!

Way to work with this forest scene. The fog really makes this nice. I also like you isolated the composition with balance.

there is much I like about this image, Karthick! ...the mist, the selective color effect of the autumn leaves, and how the nearly silhouetted trees draw even more attention to the subject. The overall comp, however feels static and mediocre. Did you try some wider angles, or maybe even a funky diagonal comp that might make it more interesting?

Excellent comp and very good use of the atmosphere at the time of shooting.

I see another image in there by cropping off both sides so your focus is solely on the middle tree with background fog. For me that would make it a stronger image by taking out the busy distractions of the side trees. Beautiful atmosphere and nice image.

The common wisdom is to exclude the sky from the composition if it's overcast, but your shot shows that you can make it work. The subdued light and gray sky give this one a lot of mood. I like.

The contrast of the brown leaves against the foggy sky is very appealing. I think Dean's crop suggestion makes it even stronger.

Thank you so much guys for your feedback and suggestions. This was one of the images, I really liked, but I didn't know whether it could appeal to others, as it did to me. Really glad it evoked some feedback. Doug: I didn't do any wider angles. But something to remember for the next time. Dean & Dan: I am attaching a crop for you guys. I do find the crop very compelling. In the original crop, I like the juxtaposition of withered leaves against the ones that are still green. In the second crop, there is a definite celebration of withering. I think I like both.
