Hi everyone! I took this picture last fall for a "Western Heritage Values" photo contest put on by Canadian Geographic magazine and The Calgary Stampede.
I really liked the theme of this contest and wanted to show something that captured the family values that the West is so known for while also having a bit of a western feel. I got this idea for the picture right after learning about the contest, but my dad reactivated a back injury and was flat in bed until the last day of the contest! He was feeling a little better that afternoon so I asked him if he could walk into the field by our home with my brother, Josiah, and let me take some pictures of them. They were pretty good at listening to my instructions

and I love how this turned out, as it really captures the interaction between my dad and my brother in the place they love the most...the out of doors!
I'm also really excited to say that my image of Josiah alone won the Junior Photographer category of the contest, and for the first time in all of the contests I've entered, they let me go up against the adults for the Grand Prize and I won with this image!
Hope y'all don't mind me sharing my good news with you!

A wonder, warm, emotional family scene, too.
