Hi everyone! I got to go on a trip with my dad and younger sister earlier this month to Ontario and New York. While we were in Ontario my dad took us to the Toronto Zoo. It was so fun! I really wanted a nice cheetah picture, so my dad let me use the camera first for this guy. I got a few images of him laying down in the grass, as he didn't really move much. After we decided to go check out some other animals he got up and walked around his entire enclosure. I quickly got a few images of him when he sat down under this tree. I definitely like the way it turned out! Can't wait to go to Africa some day and photograph a cheetah in the wild... I hope y'all like it!

Please check out the larger version for the most detail!

Thanks for looking!

Nikon D300
Nikkor 300mm f/4 ED AF-S
ISO 400
1/640sec @ f/4

NOTE: while the background was quite nice given the wide aperture, we did apply a gaussian blur to the background to soften the details and contrast a bit. We also did selective adjustments to tones and colour.

Nice picture Jaye! I like how the cheetah is under the tree. I love his pose, I really like the sharpness of it, and I like the look in his face. Great shot Jaye!

I normally don't comment on images taken in zoos, but this one is truly outstanding for its composition and sharpness!

Jenaya, if you would have told me this was taken in Africa I would have believed you! I love how you have composed this with the tree filling the TRC. Excellent image overall, well done. :toast:

Wow Jenaya, I too would have taken this as "in the wild" had you not so honestly disclosed the location. Love the low angle, the diffused (overcast?) light and the pose. I do wish - in an ideal world - for more space on the RHS as opposed to the space on the LHS given the direction of the cat's gaze.

The larger file is definitely worth a look as it's much sharper and seems to "pop" more. If mine I would just gently dodge the deepest shadows on the face a bit and see if I can extract some detail in those areas (e.g. the nostrils).
:toast:

PS: you and your family need to come to my valley for some "wild" cheetahs in great photographic conditions...

Zoo and captive wildlife photos are so easy to recognize (usually), and I don't normally comment on them either, but this one is pretty incredible Jenaya, very wild looking. Looks like your ready to go to the real Africa to me. Sweet Photo

I have to agree with what others have already noted. I never would have known this was a captive image. He looks like he is getting ready for a good scratch! Great image!!
