Estero Llano State Park, McAllen, TX January, 2012

D3 ISO 800. 500/4 with 1.4 x tc. f8 1/1600s. Tripod from shoreline. One of the few moments of sun that day. About a 50% crop.

Please correct the ID if I am wrong. Spotted in winter plumage, I believe.

You have the ID correct here Angela. I like the alert pose. I might crop some from the left and include more on the right, even though that would cut off the end of the perch. :toast:

Angela, I think this is a winner as is. I like the inclusion of the whole perch as it cuts at an angle across the frame. To me it seems to add action to the image. I also like the pose of the Sandpiper with its feet spread out to keep ahold of the stump. Lovely and thanks for posting it.

Perhaps my favorite sandpiper species, and I don't have any good photos of them yet. Great pose on a sweet perch and good sharpness. I like it as posted too. Sweet photo Angela!

Nice capture of the bird! I like the pose on the log, somewhat unusual with the bird heading down the log, but works very well IMHO. Thanks for sharing.

I like the pose and the perch and the comp works for me so I would not crop any further.
