Nice shot of one of my favorite ducks. I think I see a slight cyan cast and I would try to warm it up just a little bit. Could be the effect of the water color though.

Excellent wood duck shot. I know very well how hard to take a technicaly right shot of this species. ( I have a pair of wood duck in my farm).
Not only tecnically quality but also nice pose and composition with water.

Thank you very much for sharing with us.

Charlie, Thanks for a great morning. It was wonderful meeting you. I am really sorry I could not join you for the rest of the shoot but I enjoyed La Jolla more than before. Wonderful image of the Wood Duck; I lie the pose with the open bill and the angled approach and I like the techs. I alway seem to blow out the whites especially on the bill. Hope to shoot with you again soon.

This is an excellent Wood Duck image but I see a cyan cast too.

A lovely and different pose. I have more views of Wood Ducks heading in the other direction! The detail in the large version is really good, with the whites well under control. The cyan cast under the neck is probably reflection from the water, and could be selectively desaturated if you so choose, but it is natural and probably not necessary.

Hello Charlie Sounds like a fun day!

Sharp & detailed....Don't mind the dof...Sharp where it matters..Enjoy him with slightly opened mouth..and like the effect of pushing through the water. & reflection.

What is the crop & time of day (Seems hi contrast?)

TFS

Engaging pose, nice eye contact, open mouth and a low POV. Very well exposed in what looks like some pretty bright light - well done. I also get the sense of a color cast - it would be interesting to see what it looks like with the cyan toned down a little. Regardless, this is a very nice image of a beautiful Woody.

Thanks, folks. Yeah, I think I had been looking at green water so much yesterday that it became the norm. Here is a repost, taken in the bright light of a sunny day. Cropped from horizontal to vertical for composition. :toast:

Charlie,
Great shot. He looks familiar. I like the low angle from which he was shot.

The repost is better, what a great shot to get this nice angle and with the beak open. It's hard to capture this much color in a male Wood Duck without blowing out the whites, but you did it. :toast:
