Sign of spring
by Carolyn Derstine
This a yellow adder's tongue or dogtooth violet, according to my antique (1935) wildflower book. They appear around May growing wild throughout our wooded/shaded areas, even right through the lawn! This one was growing in a bed of groundcovering vinca and you can see more of these flowers in the BG. The leaves of this wildflower are also interesting but are hidden by the vinca in this picure. It grows from a little bulb and gets about 5 inches or so in height. Can't wait to see them this year and get a more current picture.
Taken several years ago with a Panasonic DMC-FZ28 camera. 8mm at F/5.6 for 1/640 sec. ISO 64.
