Shades of Spring Purple-Repost
by Barbara Sammons
Tulips and grape muscari ... it must be spring. I thought the combinations of the purple tones worked well together for this composition of scanner art.
Equipment: Epson Photo Scanner V33
Processed in Photoshop to remove dust specks.
All comments are welcome as I continue to work on scanner art.
Happy spring to all!

I really like your concept and it's execution!

On a separate note you asked what scanner I use. I'm using a Epson V500 scanner. (because it was on sale with free shipping
Bob, I process my images in Nik Software's Viveza and find that if I put a control point on the black background and change the sliders, it reduces a lot of the dust specks so I'm only left to remove the ones that are on the objects themselves. It doesn't get rid of all of them, but a good portion of them. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

There is a lot of depth to this, too, which might account for the amount of "fall-off" of light at the top, where it looks as though a vignette was applied.
The arrangement of the flowers is lovely and the concept is wonderful. This inspires me to try some more scans, too.
This is a much better 'arrangement' than the previous and adding the tulips makes this more interesting. As others has mention, the brightness in the stem seems to compete with the flowers. A suggestion is to reduce the brightness of the green in viveza and increase the brightness of the flowers. You may also like to reduce the saturation a tad as dark images appear more sat than normally exposed ones. I like how you are progressing with your scans
Ian, I have only been working with a scanner for a couple of months and just love the challenge. Give it a try. I have written a tutorial that is posted on my website under "tutorials" if you would like to take a look at my work flow. Just click on the "www" below and it will take you to my website. It's very fun.
