Poppy-scape

Nikon D5100 w/ Tamron 10-24mm lens
ISO 200, F16, 1/160 sec.
RAW file processed in PSE10
Location: Tucson, AZ - Saguaro NP West

I usually don't post over here but every now & then I try to improve my flora-photography skills. This is the result of expiramenting w/ my new wide-angle lens. I was attempting to get a 'bug's-eye view' by placing the camera low to the ground. There is another image posted over in the Macro gallery if you are interested. Comments & critiques welcome!

I love this low view, Tonia. However, I do find that large green stem in the FG kind of distracting.

The poppies are great and I like this version better than the one posted in macro. My only nit, is that one stem dominating the left foreground. I have gently moved that one and possibly the one to it's right gently out of the way before taking the picture.

I can see how that stem in the foreground competes for the attention. I didn't notice it when I took the shot, but then again I was on my hands and knees & trying to avoid crushing the flowers around me. Oh well, I'll know what to do next time!

Tonia
Lovely low view of the poppy field. Like the blue sky in the distance. Wish the fg leaf was not so prominent.

I think this wide angle view works maybe better than the admittedly well composed Macro version, Tonia - only because there I find too much semi-blurred bg. Here the flowers make a lovely dance across the frame - there's a feeling of joy for me in the image.

Tonia: I would definitely make the FG stem go away pre-capture but I'm saying that now with many years of experience at critically evaluating the viewfinder and many thousands of images trashed/deleted because of overlooked elements in the frame. My other suggestions would be to crop a good bit of the sky and maybe even clone away some of the BG foliage poking up into the sky. I do really like you POV and would encourage you to keep exploring close to the ground. >=))>

Attractive sunny look Tonia and I like the typical Arizona BG here. Great POV too.
I might've used a slightly higher s-speed with a bit less DOF, but that's just me.
Only other suggestion would be to have plucked the one stem FG out of the way..
Nice shot as posted! :toast:
