When we visited the Masoala NP in Madagascar we stayed at the Arol ecolodge. We were the only two visitors in the lodge. While having breakfast one day we suddenly noticed a lot of these amazing Moths (Chrysiridia rhipheus) in the flowering tree next to us. I have never seen more beautiful butterflies in my live! I will also post an extra image of the back of the wings and body, they are even more colorful than the upperside. A few days ago Borgesius posted an Urania moth, that is also a member of the Uranidae family.

An extra post to show the backside of this colorful day-active moth. Unfortunately I do not have a sharper image than this one.

The colors of this moth are spectacular. The second image is a little busy overall, but I like the wing display. I have to figure out how to attract these to my yard in Ohio.

Wow that is a beautiful butterfly, Ellen! I'm glad you included the back shot so we could see more details. It sounds like a wonderful experience to stay in that lodge and have these butterflies flying around while you eat breakfast. Thanks for sharing these images.
