Under the Hood

This is a 12 shot stack looking under the hood of my wife's Paphiopedilum orchid . Taken using overcast light coming through a southwest facing window. (5D, 100mm macro + 36mm ET, f/13, 1.3 s, iso 400, tripod & cable release) and my wife was banned from the room to prevent floor vibrations.

That's funny... I would put a sign on the door... NO VISITORS ALLOWED! STAY AWAY. If I saw that while visiting, I'd be tempted to do something bad that someone with third-gade maturity would think to do ...

PHOTO...This is delightful...the details and magnification bring out formations and symmetry that the naked eye could never enjoy. I like the bright arc and sun-beam green/white/pink stripes. They set the mood like entering into an arched doorway to see the unseen.

Fabulous detail Mark. These guys are difficult to capture well and you've done a masterful job.

Mark:
This looks so alien on close up. The capture and stack are flawless. I am undecided on whether the OOF hood on the top provide a contrast to the sharp portion or distract. Hmmm after staring for a while I kind of wish the hood was included in the stack... probably need to see it before I commit myself.

Hey this guy looks familiar! (Different version posted in Weekly Challenge gallery). Really interesting details and a POV we don't usually get to see. Orchids are so beautiful but can also be quite unusual in their features. Great stacking job, Mark.

Gary, It's optically impossible to get the tip of the lip sharp and still have this much detail in the column. That hood sticks out 3 times further than the front edge of the lower lip so the stand off distance would have to be much larger to get everything sharp and that would make the innards a much smaller part of the frame.
