Sabine's Gull

Olympus E-3, 300mm f2.8 handheld
f8, 1/500, ISO200

Working through some older images, I thought I'd post this; it's not a species I've often seen on NPN. Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge, outside of Chevak, 2010. This subspecies of Sabine's Gull breeds in coastal Alaska in the marshy areas, and winters off the west coast of South America.

The head shows better detail in the larger image. 75% of full frame. Adjustments to levels. Usual sharpening drill.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Hi Jim, nice capture. This is spot on! The details are great. One reason I like this site is because of the variety of birds that are shared. This is another one I will try to add to my life's list. Thanks for sharing!

Excellent. Everything looks spot on in this, and I love that you got it in such a good flight position and against a nice sky.

Good detail, especially in the LP Jim, and I like the contrast against the blue sky. You're right about not seeing these guys posted-first I can remember-thanks for posting.

I go along with Rich and Sandy's comments here, Jim. love how well the eye shows. such a cool species--I've only seen the adult once, off the coast of Washington.

Nice shot, Jim! We weren't successful in locating one at Churchill in June.
