Canon 1D MarkIV, Canon 500mm Lens, Shutter 800, F5.6, ISO 125. After a brief drink of water, this Black Rhino was taking a leisure walk on the plains of Masai Mara in Kenya.

Hi Sandra and welcome to NPN :wavey: This is a beautiful image - everything about it is nice and clean. I like the way that it is all and only about the rhino. The composition is good and the raised leg walkinto frame is a nice touch. It looks like you've cropped in some way, maybe from the left? Maybe consider a touch more contrast to make the rhino pop a little more? Just a thought, but overall a really strong image..

Welcome! This is a very nice image. Good detail, although it's hard to tell in a small image. (We can also post a larger image - see [osting guidelines) . Great pose with the raised leg and very complimentary BG. Love the tattered ears!
Perhaps a little tight in the frame, epecially on the left - you might consider allowing more room.
Looking forward to more of your images! If you wish, please introduce yourself in the "NPN Photographers" Gallery (under "Galleries" at the top so we can better welcome you and learn more about you!

Welcome to the gallery Sandra ! The thing that stands out to me is the iconic pose ( that little stride forward and the face/horns showing beautifully). Very well executed image under difficult lighting conditions.

Welcome to NPN, Sandra! What a grand debut image! You should consider yourself extremely lucky to see and photograph a black rhino in Masai Mara, and that, too, out in the open like this one. Love the pose with left front foot raised and the lighting on the rhino's face as well. Would have preferred a little more room, especially to the right of the frame, and maybe, clone out the bright spots in front of its face, and one on the ground. But, all in all, a great image of one of nature's poorly understood and highly poached creatures.

I also want to extend my welcome to NPN. Nice first image. I like the way the Rhino stands out from the background. Very plain background nicely out of focus. The animal looks sharp and has a nice pose.

Great portrait! I really love the simplicity and desolate appearance of the landscape, it makes for great separation of the Black Rhino! Well done!

HI Sandra,

Welcome to NPN and the Wildlife Gallery in particular. This is an excellent first post. The image is simple (which in my books is a good thing) and clean, with virtually no distracting elements. The uplifted left front leg adds a touch of dynamism to it. And, all techs look good, including the depth of field.

Cheers...looking forward to future contributions from you (both image posts and comments on the images of others).
