Ridgeline Buck.....

Shot was captured as I was leaving the ridgeline and had stopped at a gate to close it after the truck had exited. The buck was trying to sneak undetected around where we had stopped. The ridgeline is on the southern end of the Great Salt Lake and is the closest ridgeline overlooking the lake. The lighting as the sun goes down is always interesting here and can be heavily influenced by this large body of water…. I like the resulting dark blue / black contrast…. As he was on the move I quickly bumped the ISO up and guessed at the EV - let me know what you think.

canon 1d mark iv, ISO 1600, 200mm, f 2.8, 1/50th, +1/3 exp. comp., no post production, hand held.

Interesting image! I do wish it was a bit sharper. Nice work to get this shot. I think you could crop off the trees and still have a good image. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Robbie,

Nice graphic appeal to this shot. I think the under-exposure here works just fine. From a compositional perspective...the buck is perhaps a tad too centred for my taste - if this were mine I'd experiment with cropping a little off the right side and perhaps the top - to functionally "slide" the buck up the slope a little. I'd keep the tree on the left side of the frame in the image.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Brad thanks for the input. With some experimentation this is what I ended up with.....
