Apologies for having not posted in such a long time. A combination of being overseas and a dead computer.
This was the first bird I pointed a camera at in Malaysia; so I was pretty impressed. Pity about the ISO 1600 which was a bit much for the old 1D2n

1DMkIIn 500/f4 1.4X
ISO 1600 f6.3 1/50

cheers
Rob

Welcome back. Rob. The noise is minimal. A fine photo of a beautiful bird. If the Malaysian bids are like the South Americans, these guys are rarely in bright light. Shame about the OOF vine out of the top of the head, but it's a minor nit on a lovely shot.

Nice bird, Rob. Very fine detail. I would have reduced a bit the brightness of the leaf in the BG.

Not a bad way to start a trip! Nicely done, you certainly don't notice noise at this size. ISO 1600, and only 1/50!!

Lovely pose and excellent exposure. Not seeing any noise, at least on the standard view here.

glad to see you back, Rob. I didn't realize the trogon family extended over into Asia as well--very cool. nice pose and comp, and noise looks fine at this size, a good job in very little light.

Glad to see you posting again. Interesting to compare trogon feather patterns and colors from the ones we find in SE Arizona that come up from Mexico. A wonderful shot considering the conditions you appear to be photographing in. Way to cool, what a way to start a trip, always nice to find a trogon in any place, well done. :toast:

Awesome capture Rob, I'd love to have this one in my collection, though yet to even catch sight of an Orange-Brested Trogon, you lucky ... ;^)

If this wonderful image were mine, I'd be compelled to experiment with the burn tool in PS to see if I could darken the somewhat reflective leaf in the BG behind the Trogon's head, though the desired result may be hard to pull off leaving the image looking natural. Whatever the case, a corker of a shot and one to be proud of :^)
