Ring-necked Duck (Aythya collaris)

Riparian Preserve, Gilbert, AZ
February 7, 2012. 9:34 am
Nikon D300, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 & TC20E III (2x), G1325, RRS BH-55, Sidekick
ISO 800, Aperture priority matrix metered, 1/1000th @ f/8
Raw, PSCS3 on Mac G4, 72% of frame

A common species in winter in AZ, taken from a floating walkway so I kept the ISO and shutter speed high to compensate for the unsteady platform.

I like the understated colors and the patterns on the water’s surface.

A nice, clean look at this duck. I like the soft colors too. :toast:

Beautiful colors and light, wonderful detail, really nice with the reflection. As your images usually do, this looks like a painting.

I like how the water color works so well with color of the duck. Great detail in the feathers and a good reflection. A very fine shot.

Very good detail on the duck with water drops clearly visible on the larger image. I always like water reflection compositions as they really add to the overall image for me, well seen and well done Rich.

Nice clean shot of this bird. Great light. The water droplets and the color and smoothness of the water add a lot to this.

Love the rich browns of the females...you've captured her very nicely, with nice water, reflection, and light. Smaller version appears a bit over sharpened, but the larger version shines. Sharon

Excellent detail, the colors of the duck and the water work well together.
