Intimate Flow

Shot on the same day as my last Great Falls photo, this is a more intimate look at the shapes of the bedrock at some that are revealed during lower water levels.

Shot this with a 200mm prime, which I now find to be a bit artistically restrictive. I'm switching out for a 70-200 in the recent days, and think I can sacrifice a bit of quality and speed for that added flexibility. That said, I was pretty happy with the frame in this shot, though I might have zoomed out just a tad had I had the flexibility.

5dm2 f/5.6 for .5 sec ISO 1000

Curious for thoughts...

W#hat neat array of textures and directionality, I think this is really strong, but that empty space in the lower right isn't doing too much for me. Nicely seen!

This may be my favorite image from this place . . . though it feels like a very different place here. Wonderful flow and texture in this.

Navin,
I like this one a lot!
You sure get to more interesting areas at GFalls than I do.
Is that in the Gorge or above the falls?
I like the tight comp, and I see the water flow in the lower right as interesting,
perfect shutter speed and capture and I like the B&W conversion.

thanks everyone...

Ben/Tom - while i'm not thrilled with the LRC, i find it balances well with the ULC. I had some thoughts to crop it down but felt it took too much away from the flow on the LLC.

Tom - this was near the top of the gorge

Tony - thanks for the very kind compliment. Doesn't seem like this shot is very popular on this forum, but I thought it was a bit different than other gFalls shots i'd seen. I don't spend a whole lot of time searching past shots though so I can never be sure.
one reason why it may look so different is because of the relative calm and low water of the river. it seems much more like a gentle cascade than a violent rapid.

Beautiful capture Navin, with perfect shutter speed. I agree with Benjamin about the empty space in the LRC, maybe you could coax a little more texture out of it. That's very minor though. Great image!

Hi Navin,

This is a pretty little scene. I could see maybe cropping up a bit from the bottom to eliminate some of the space on the LRC. Overall, I think you did a great job.

Nice composition. I think the water in the LRC is necessary to ground the image.

Navin, your image has got an almost abstract quality to me and the b&w conversion shows it at its best in my opinion. I enjoy the interplay of shapes and textures, the composition is well balanced to my eye.
