Moses and Zeus

In keeping with the B&W theme this Valentines day...
Just got back from Canyonlands NP yesterday, spent a couple days out there, it's an awesome place in Winter, no crowds and beautiful weather (temps were in the upper 50s for this shot). I've wanted to photo this particular formation for a while now, it's on of the most distinctive in the park--the scale isnt too obvious here but these sandstone towers are hundreds of feet high. I drove about 20 miles down the muddy Winter roads (Mineral Bottom in Winter is a blast--one slip and you tummble hundreds of feet down the canyon... ) then scrambled up the base of Moses and Zeus for this look up. B&W was the obvious choice from the start. Hope you like!

Hi Stan, I like the looks of this in b/w. It has given this quite a dramatic feel especially with the dark sky...which I like alot here. I also think your comp works great. The detail in this looks fantastic, and I really enjoy looking at this. Very nice work! :wavey:
Glad you didn't slip and take the tumble.

All of your conversions in your collection really sing, Stan. This one was #5 on my faves list. Excellent comp and dramatic conversion. Excellent!

Those are really cool rock formations and they stand out dramatically against the dark sky. I like that you included ample fg to hint at their very vertical existence.

The dark sky really focuses attention on the foreground. I especially like the side lighting on the pillars. Wow, TSE and you still had to stitch.

I can’t stop staring at the peak of the rock. It looks like a chiseled man’s face, almost like an Easter Island statue. So lofty and forbidding, contrasting powerfully with the dark background, the side lighting defines the figure as it rules over this the comp.

Like the strong diagonal flow in the comp and your b/w conversion. These are really cool rock formations. Glad you didn't have any mis-steps on your way to the canyon floor. Yes, winter is a great time to visit. I've been to Arches several times since Christmas and have loved the emptiness

great processing in this one my friend, maybe the FG is not very interesting here to lead the eye to the depth of this scene but i still like it
