Geometric Night

This dome was part of something very big at a famous location. I'll see if anyone can guess it. I zoomed in on a small part of the big scene and turned it into an abstract. I was attracted by the contrast of the vivid colors against the black sky. Abstracts are all around us if we just look closely enough.

Very cool pattern and colors. Makes a real fine abstract.

This looks like the space sphere at EPCOT. Beautiful coloring and nice abstract! If this is the correct location, did you take a tripod in there? I'm wondering because I will be attending a seminar at Disney in July and was thinking about taking either a tripod or monopod, but am not sure if they allow either one.

Yes Carol, it's the top of the Epcot dome. I used a 55-200mm VR lens to take it. I leaned up against a building to make me steadier. It's surprisingly bright and I didn't have much trouble with it. I have taken tripods into Disney in the past, mostly for after dark shots. As long as I was out of the way and not impeding traffic, I was left alone. Mostly I just take my D80 + a kit lens or two, or something even more compact. At night I find I need a bit more equipment such as a fast lens and a flash. I don't like hauling a lot of stuff around on family outings though. There are many cool little abstracts there if you look closely.

Thanks for the tips Kent. Your photo is very sharp for hand held. This will be the first Disney visit I have taken in a very long time without kids or grandkids, so I wanted to try some night photography at EPCOT and the Magic Kingdom. I think I'll take my monopod and see what abstracts I can find. Yours is an inspiration!

Kent, that's a stunning abstract, glad a scrolled down and saw it! With the dark lines it looks like it could have been processed with Topaz Simplify or computer generated using Mathematica.
