Meadow scene

by Carolyn Derstine

Gallery: FloraPosted February 12, 2012117 views9 comments
I believe these are the flowers of a Joe-Pye weed with brown-eyed susan flowers in the background. Taken in a nearby meadow. It was a sunny day with lots of insect activity.

Panasonic DMC-FZ28. 68mm at F/5 for 1/200 sec. ISO 100.

Carolyn: I'm not 100% sure but this looks like milkweed to me. If so, your penalty for faulty ID is to send me the RAW file and all rights. I like your comp and how your DOF choice renders the BG. The party crashers are cool too. Nicely done.>=))>

Carolyn, this image beautifully captures the essence of summer to me. I like the pink flowers, whatever they are, the insects, and the BG black eyed susans. Very well composed.

Insect in flight adds a lot of additional interest in an already colorful frame, Carolyn  - very punchy frame.

Bill, thanks for the correct ID. I really wasn't sure what they were.

Carolyn:
I agree with Bill about milkweed. A very colorful and pleasant image to look at. The pink goes well with the yellow in the bg. The insects are a pleasant surprise when the image opens up. Not sure if this is compression artefact, but the fg bloom could be a little sharper.

Hi Carolyn :wavey: i love your composition , and the interaction between the subjects, the color and detail are stunning!! It costs so little, but the Peterson field guides for wildflowers [ northeastern/ northcentral , north america] is indispensable for Flora members. this is a milkweed, but the pointed leaves show this is not the common milkweed, perhaps the swamp or four -leaved milkweed

Very pretty. Nice repeating diagonals with the foreground and background flowers. I really like the little " bugger" at the bottom captured in mid-flight. :toast:
