Little intimidator

While trying to find a nice foreground, I saw this small barrel cacti perfectly situated with nothing blocking the distant mountains. I figured this was a good time to get close and try some more blending techniques. This barrel cactus was about the size of a softball, which is very small if your not familiar with these plants. I got as close as I could and fired off six frames at different focal points. I would have put a larger version but I have been having trouble getting it to fit the size guidelines. Be assured though, that there are plenty of nice details throughout the entire image from foreground to background. A very simple comp. Would like to hear your thoughts.

Canon 7d
Canon 17-40mm @17mm
Six images @f9 1/5 sec ISO 100
Tripod mounted.

There is incredible depth in this image and the light is gorgeous. For me. it feels just a little tight up front where the cactus spine extends out of the frame. You did a great job with the blending, it's nice and sharp front to back. Very nice

Great light on the barrel cacti and all the way through the frame.

Sweet light and a very nice foreground subject. My only nit, and it is small, is to have more room around the cactus. Especially the left side. Nice comp, good depth and color.

This really works well, Peter. Could maybe see a little more space at the bottom of the frame, but it's the near-far character that holds my interest.

Thank you everyone. Looking back at it I wish I would have shifted the lens a few degrees to the left. There wasn't much I could do about the bottom as my tripod just can't get low enough. I will be returning soon if the wildflowers pick up in this spot.

Peter, This is beautiful light and I love the warm glow of the color. It really does look like wonderful detail from near to far. Very interesting subject as well. Very nice work! :toast:
