I like what's happening in this image, but does the fact that the white at the very top of his head is blown out totally detract (or did it before I pointed it out to you)? ;)

Comments, opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I like this composition. There are nice graphics from the lines of the herons' legs and plumes as well as from the branch. I also like how the extended neck makes one heron appear so much larger than the other.

That's difficult light to shoot in (against). Knowing how hard the light is I'm not bothered by a small area of blown feathers.

Very nice interaction between these two, and I like the composition. The light is somewhat harsh, but I'd take that anytime for a capture such as this.

Very cool shot--it looks kind of funny the way he's handling that big twig! That little bit of blown out white doesn't bother me.

The whites at the top of the head don't bother me. The interaction is wonderful, I really like how the female's face is veiled by the plumes of the male. The only thing that keeps this from being a fantastic image is the quality of lighting. :toast:

great interaction, Barbara, really a cool moment. I'm not bothered by the whites, just wish that the angle of the light was as good as everything else here (because everything else here is fantastic!).

Looks like you did well on your exposure, considering the light you were working under. A very cool courtship demonstration, definitely a keeper in my book. Sweet Photo Barbara :toast:

Cool picture. I love the pose of the two birds and the interaction. That little bit of blown white does not detract fom the image IMO. The semi-translucent bill of the bigger bird (or reflection) is a nice touch.

Barbara that's an awesome shot. I love the way the branch seems to mimic the males plume on his head and that the stick connects both birds. Love their interaction...sweet love. Difficult lighting, but you did a great job with it. Blown out whites do not detract. Beautiful! That's a contest winner

Wonderful capture of the interaction; there's a real intimacy to this shot. The harsh light is a negative; you might try some work in Photoshop to minimize the problem by pulling down the highlights (Image > Adjustments > Shadows/Highlights) and increasing the Saturation (Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation). Slight adjustments with those two sliders can mitigate, but not remove, the effects of very harsh light.

Hi Barbara! Welcome to the Viera Wetlands, one of my favorite stomping grounds. I live just 10 miles up the road from there. I've actually seen and photographed these same 2 Herons. I really like the composition you did with them. Hope you can get better light next time. It's easy for me since I live so close. Maybe I'll see you there sometime.
Cheers. Ed

Beautiful, Barbara. The poses of the two Herons are perfect together. Great interaction. The blown out line is so small, tat I don't think it's a significant distraction.
