Blacktail and Fawn

This was taken on one of several recent trips to the Sacramento NWR. There are quite a lot of blacktail deer in the Central Valley. This image shows them in typical habitat for that area. I decided not to clone the brush away from the fawn in order to show this habitat and the fact that they seemed to be under the illusion that they were hidden from me. I am fairly new to NPN and have mostly been posting in Avian.

Jim... I think the light and exposure here are nice. The techs/processing seem spot on. And I understand wanting to keep the "clutter" in to show the environment. But here it obstructs the view a little too much I think, to the point it's distracting, rather than adding to the photo. The placement of the deer within the frame are a little awkward too - cut off legs and tight on top; Kind of an in-between showing a full environmental or a closer portrait. I think that more space around might have made for a nicer comp.

The crossing of the cockleburrs make this more interesting to me, accenting the positioning of the necks and faces. I think (if you this is full frame and you have enough pixels) this would be more dramatic as a vertical crop.

Unfortunately, this was an uncropped image. No extra room at the top or anywhere else. I have included a cropped version, which is as close to vertical as I can get. Seems way too tight all around. Thanks for your comments.
