Ron's image of the Osprey making a dive a few months ago has truly inspired me to try and get that type of shot. This will be a three part series. This first shot is just after the osprey banked and stared to dive. Typically, as the osprey goes through the back ground I lose focus on the back ground. But Ron convinced me to use a single focus point. It's definitely more difficult to keep the focus point exactly on the bird but if you do you get rewarded more often with better images. The downside is that I lose focus more often. Since Ron posted his osprey I have made almost 20 attempts at osprey's diving with images that were either slightly out of focus or totally out of focus. I don't think these will measure up to Ron's fantastic osprey image but the three are my personal best so far. I'm going to keep trying. That's all I can do. Check back for shot 2 and shot 3. Thanks for having a look see. Have a great week.

Awesome topside view David! Great detail, and the osprey looks fantastic against that background. Excellent... looking forward to seeing more.

David, if anyone can duplicate Ron's image it would be you. This image has your usual detail and I like the pose. Hope to shoot real soon with you. Stay dry.

David you humble me with your comments. Not much I can say about that except thank you.

As far as you image goes, this is great David. The topside view is very nice and the look at the one eye makes this work. The bird is sharp with a nice BG. That is another hard part of getting these shots, beyond just getting the bird sharp, is to get the bird at the correct angle get a look at an eye and still portray the dive well. You succeeded. Looking forward to the next two images.

way to go, David! Congrats to you on putting in the hard work and fighting through the failures to get what you wanted. This looks super--it's an interesting angle on the bird, and it gave you just enough of a view of the eye to make it really work. Very well done. :toast:

I like this a lot too and agree with Ron's comment about the eye - one of the saving graces about shooting birds with colored eyes (Osprey, male harriers etc) is that you don't need light in the eye - the bright color is usually enough). Good job locking on against this background. Looking forward to #'s 2 and 3.

Awesome capture--just beautiful! I have a hard enough time just getting sharp Chickadee shots!

Way to cool, your practice attempts have been paying off. Very nice feather detail for the crop and I really like the anticipation type action in the shot. Well done, looking forward to the others, way to go.

Good work. The dark BG makes this really interesting. You almost lost the left wing in the darker part of the BG but managed to pull it off. Well done. :toast:
