I've not posted in a couple of weeks due to work commitments so I thought I'd continue my Iceland theme with an image from the volcanic north on a moody and cold sunrise. I was drawn to the wonderful variety of textures and colours in the boiling mud pools. C&C Welcome. Please view large.

Terrific composition Adrian. All the shades of gray in the different elements creates a great mood to the image. I was there in June of 2006 and photographed this same feature from almost the same place and angle. (Yours is much better though)

Wow! Fascinating image. The mood fits the scene well, and the textures are interesting as well. I don't know much about areas like this---is it safe to be walking out around those bubbling pots of mud? TFS!

Looks really cold! Nice foreground to go with the stormy back.

Interesting colors and it does have a very isolated feeling to it. Nice image.

Really neat - love this one. It's got a lot of mood and interest. I might be tempted to brighten it a little - maybe selectively. Neat scene.

And if you don't mind... the volcanic north of where?

Your title is right on the money! Great composition, but what really draws me in is the wonderful, yet subtle coloration. Absolutely beautiful.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the wonderful comments. Nathan - to answer your question, there are walkways and guide ropes for safety. I actually removed some of them in Photoshop!

"Alien" is definitely the right word here, Adrian. That would be a hard scene to visualize, but you did it really well.
