Trying for early morning photo with the moon nearly full. Could not figure out how to get detail in moon and still have branches showing. I could get one or the other not both. Cold, but fun. Any comments will be appreciated.

Canon EF70-300 IS USM @ 180mm
Tripod plus live view

Nice shot John. I like the the blue of the sky. I might suggest trying to merge two images in post processing. One image with the focus on the tree limb and the other with the focus on the moon.

If you try Andrew's suggestion and it works, be sure to post that image. Here, I especially like the dark blue and the white. For me it would be better if the moon was up higher, just under the top branches, but I know the light in the sky and the moon in a different spot might not work out right.

Andrew, thanks for your suggestion. Not sure why I didn't think of it myself, except I had in my mind doing this in one shot, since my PSE skills are lacking.

Barbara, If sucessful trying Andrews suggestion I will post it here.

Actually... replacing the moon like this when it touches or even comes close to an object in the scene is really difficult. The hard part is getting rid of the glow or blooming around the moon in the shot that shows the branches. It can be done, but it's a simple blend because you'll lose the branches around the moon that has detail - which might be OK.
