Light's First Glance

This was taken shortly after sunrise off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Western NC. This image tested my processing skills so I'd like other opinions in that regard. It is a blend of two exposures. Started off in LR3 and finished it off in CS5.

Please view large version for detail.

Thanks in advance!

And on and on it goes. I thought I had hit the sky with the the first low clouds. This is neat. Any idea how far it is to the most distant peaks.

I would say about 20 miles, Tony...with a margin of error around 30 miles +- Honestly, it's hard to tell, but I might be able to make out some landmarks next time I'm up there and update the post later with my best guess.

Love the palette of colors in this image. Also, the horiz. as well as diagonal elements are great. There's a lot of detail in the FG and MG trees. Easy to pick out individuals. Sort of like the mountains were covered with a shag rug or similar item with all the vertical pieces. Nicely seen.

Joseph,

This is wonderful! The layers are incredible here. And this is something different that we haven't seen from this part of the country. Ok, nothing new about the layered hills and valley, but there's something about the light and tonality that is very appealing here. And if this was a "test" of your processing skills, I would say you passed with flying colors!

No nits, I love this.

This looks great Joseph! The light here is fantastic. One awesome view really well done! As Peter mentioned there is some very nice detail in the trees as you look closer. The colors are great and I love all the layers. Really nice work!

Very nice, Joseph! I love the "endless" ridge lines and the clouds off in the distance! Well done!

This is very nice. The detail in the larger version and the warm highlights on the ridges are just wonderful.

Beautiful image! You captured the shadows and tones very well. I especially like how the tops of the trees on the ridges glow in the side light. The larger version is especially nice, with lots of details.

I really like the light streaming through the haze in the foreground; makes for a nice atmosphere.

Your processing looks great. Such soft light, and the details in the shadows is just right. Classic east coast vista.
