Majestic Buck

I captured this Texas buck in heavy brush. I have some images with no vegetation in front of the buck, but I chose this one because I think the sapling in front adds to the overall effect. This is full frame, no cropping. I intentionally shot it this way to capture the antler detail, which is, in my opinion, what makes this image interesting. It was a very slow shutter speed, because I didn't want to bump up the ISO. I was using a sandbag. Comments and critiques welcome.

Majestic is right. However, I disagree about the sapling adding to the photo. For me, in a buck with a rack this big, I want to see the rack unobscured by anything. I like his pose, though a little more eye contact would be nice.

This is a beautiful portrait Jerry of a nice looking specimen. I like how you managed to isolate him quite well amongst all that dense forest habitat. I do understand your reasoning about the sapling, but to be honest I also feel the image would have been better without it from an aesthetic POV.

Hmmm, I have gone back and forth on the sapling. I really like the quality of the buck and the light you captured him in. I understood your reasoning about the sapling...and agreed...but as I continue to review, I keep finding the sapling draws my attention as much as the buck, therefore I conclude it is a distraction.
