Red-breaswted Merganser (male) at Bayport, Florida

1/1000 at f8 and ISO400
Canon 500mm with 1.4 TC
Canon 7D

I do not seen mirror water very often in the gulf -- the tide or wind is usually causing some ripples.

I have been following this bird for two years now. They are migrant to my part of Florida and last year I did not see a male. This is my first look at the male merganser. There were 15 mergansers swimming around the pier and this is the only male I saw.

Wsihing I had removed the 1.4tc for a bit more room but i have no more room front or back.

Scott, I really like the colours here, the deep blue contrasting with the red/orange in the bill and the eye, just awesome. Feather detail and the reflection is very nice as well. If you are so inclined it would be easy to add some to the front, which would make this even better. Very nice :toast:

Wonderful detail and reflection. Interesting plumage development for a male, nice job in getting this, way to go.

Always nice when you can get this close. A touch more room would have been nice but not a big issue for me. I might go slightly brighter.
