Last Light

Thanks for all your comments on my previous image. Here is one a little more current. I almost included this in the Chronicles series, but this wasn't captured during the same trip to Yosemite last November, but a day trip in September.

As much as I love Yosemite, I have made several trips stopping short of the park and making the Merced river canyon near El Portal my destination. The 16 mile stretch between Bryceburg and El Portal is just beautiful scenery with so many opportunities it is and should be a photo destination.

Simple image, nothing earth shattering here. I've always loved and look for the transitional areas in the river where the elevation changes and the water cascades over the rocks. These areas really show up late in the year when the water level is of course very low.

Thanks for looking. Comments appreciated.

Beautiful scene and sweet warm light! I love the light on the rocks in the water. I might consider burning the tree upper left, as it pulls my eye there? This needs to be viewed large, as the small version does it no justice.

It's definitely not one of my favorites of yours Lon, but it has some appeal. Without the warm light this would be an entirely different image. It really makes this worth spending time viewing.

By the way, I did not see your Yosemite shot until just now...WOW. That is awesome!

Incredible image! Not only are the colors outstanding, but I like the way the water in in the shade, while a few rocks and bushes catch the golden light. Also, the water motion is perfect.

This does need to be viewed LARGE---all the more breathtaking.

"Simple image, nothing earth shattering here." Maybe, but I absolutely love images like this and feel as though they seem to get lost in the wiz bang orgasm of light that everyone seems to chase. Very well crafted as usual Lon!

The contrasting colors and textures make for a strong image, Lon. It's a busy scene, but everything separates out very nicely.

Looks like some very nice late afternoon light warming up those trees and rocks beautifully in contrast the blue water. The water textures are also very nice at 1/2sec, and I like the diagonal flow of your comp. The fg rocks and rapids are fabulous here, and I thought about a crop to remove the busy bg trees, but it just disrupts the excellent balance of your comp so I ditched that thought quick smart

This one is super, Lon. The warm light, rocks, and cascading water are excellent. I'll comment on the exposure here too, the water flow as well as the highlights are perfect for this type of scene IMO. The extra stop in film speed might have also aided in the capture on this one....

Thanks for the comments folks! I suspect like most of you, I really love this time of day. Only wish it lasted longer. I guess I could move to Alaska....

I was wondering if anyone would comment about the tree in the UL. Harley jumped right on it. I was wondering how long it would take. Guess not very. Doubt this will ever see paper so I guess for now I'll just leave it.

Thanks!

About the tee in the upper left. It's my only nit about this. I don't see why you would never print it. I would however, do something about the corner if possible before you do!

Love the glow on the trees, bushes, and rocks. Very pretty water action and well chosen shutter speed. A very peaceful and relaxing image, making me wish I was there.

Beautiful warm light bathing this scene, Lon, and love your composition. Had to be a wonderful experience making this image. Great job handling the light in exposing the film, scanning and processing; the shadow detail is just right, highlights gorgeous, and well, everything is spot on. Fantastic.
