"YUKON GOLD"

It has been a great week up here in Whistler. Zack Schnepf was up here doing some consulting work to assist me in getting many of my images ready for printing. I am hoping to open a gallery here in Whistler later this year

I had no idea how much work goes into printing and mounting images for canvas, fine art paper etc!! I can see why people outsource it all!! It is a bit overwhelming, but I enjoy the challenge. I also wanted to thank Adam Gibbs and Kevin McNeal for dropping by and giving me their input on my images and ideas for location of a gallery in Whistler.

I wanted to post this image I took back in October 2011 from my expedition trip up in the Yukon. I was so busy processing the aurora images, I left this one to the end. When we landed at our starting point in the sub arctic, we were about 15 min away from an amazing sunset. It was difficult to scramble and find a decent composition. I was happy with what I found. This image looks great printed "BIG", since the range in the distance is a bit far away.

This image was processed for print, and prints great. So if you find any issues with saturation, please keep this in mind.

All comments are welcome

Looks nice, no problem with saturation at all. I like the warm tones in the clouds to offset all the cooler colors in the rest of the scene.

Here is a fantastic shot that Colin Sillerud took of our helicopter taking off just prior to sunset. Thank you Colin for allowing me to post this image

The gold and blue combo just works great here. wonderful light and nice foreground.

Learning the ins and outs of printing is something I need to do as well. It is a bit daunting.

What a beautiful scene. The saturation is perfect and love the glow on the mountains. These are the kinds of places I'd like to visit sometime in my life. Especially if you need a chopper to get there!

Some fantastic lighting here. Thesoft yellows works so well with the blue snow. The composition leads me throughout, a winner shot. Especially like that yelow band of mist/clouds near the horizon. :toast:

James,

Gorgeous winter landscape! I think the composition is fantastic and I would love to see more of this type. Even though there is great light and drama in the setting sun, you chose to give most of the real estate to the landscape and used the drama up top as an accent to the landscape. this is outstanding.

I'm sure the print is wonderful and I wish you the best of luck with your new gallery. thanks for sharing here!

Thank you for all the great comments, I am glad to see a positive response to this image.

I would have posted a larger version, but I have recently been contacted by a German photographer who found one of my images on a electronics site used for advertising HD TV's in Portugal !! It seems that many images from Earth Shots.org are getting scammed for illegal use.

Everything looks great to me, James... beautiful light and color. I like the way you've used the fg snow line and rocks to curve the eye around towards the peaks. The light and color on the clouds is sweet and the blue of the snow is a wonderful complement to it. Sure looks like a pristine and remote location. Good luck with your printing and the gallery.

Beautiful one, this part of the water not fully covered by the snow, bordered with the rocks leads nicely into the image where the light is magical

Wonderful shot in every way James! Saturation looks good to me. It looks like it's tilted slightly down to the lest, but I think that's just an illusion due to that sloped shore on the right. Good luck with your gallery!

Ian,

Fernie has great dry snow! I am sure you will enjoy it there. Whistler where I live is bigger, with 2 mountains to ski on with 240 ski runs. I assume you are flying into Calgary. You should hit Banff and Jasper if you can! Your camera would be happy

Looks excellent James. It looked even more impressive as a huge print. Thanks for having me in Whistler. It was a great week, we got so much done, and having Adam and Kevin come hang out was icing on the cake.
