Green on Red

Another contribution to the fly theme. I shot this common green bottle fly (Lucilia sericata) late last summer as it rested on a red dahlia at the local public gardens. I like the contrast of the red flower and the fly's metallic green body. Nikon D700, 180 Macro, f8, iso 400, 1/800 sec. This image is cropped appx 60% from orig. Larger image provided.

I love the upper body detail and color you show on this fly. I like your comp and the red flower makes a wonderful background to show off the fly. Leave it to us macro people to find the beauty in what others consider annoying!

Great comp and colours. And I think Carolyn is so right. Macro and close-up gives us a chance to show the beauty of all those small things that go often unnoticed. That's why love macro. A fraction of nature to share and appreciate. :jump:

Very Metallic colors on the body of this Housefly, Scott - nice angle to highlight the interesting portions of the fly. The deep reds set it off nicely

Great angle and superb detail, I really like how the deep red makes everything pop out. I have only one small nit and that's the red piece of petal in the bg by the head, it's luminance is brighter than the rest of the reds and it tends to pull my eye away from that fabulous fly.

For a critter that I usually associate with annoying buzzing and smelly, rotting stuff in the summer, this is amazingly attractive -- almost like a Christmas decoration!

Excellent point of focus & use of F/8 Scott, sharp.
The reds & greens really work nicely in this one! :toast:
