Warning Growl
by Roman Kurywczak
Taken on my Tanzania tour this past August. Finally getting a chance to work on some files so hope to participate more here in 2012!
Canon 1D Mark 3 with the Sigma 300-800@406mm at f/7.1 and 1/320 sec. and ISO 800. Slight crop off top to eliminate some of the BG.

10 commentsVery sharp throughout and I love the action in this photo. I love the angry look of the mother lion in contrast with the composed, almost worried expression on the youngster. I do like that you cropped the top down, but I wish there was more room on the right side of the image, and perhaps that you could've included the whole lioness. But I'm glad the lion cub is entirely within the frame. Great shot. can't wait to see more!

I like the idea of the subjects being above you offer a good POV. Love the snarling mother, pose and front leg outstretched with the young cub close by, just looking with the front part curved in, to the side of Mum (Mom). Good to have those flies included. With the zoom I would have liked to have come out a bit more and not clipped the rear. Personally I am not sold on the BKG NR strength, as it creates a few odd looking parts ie the foliage (?) for me. The DOF looks about right, but sadly I think a hint more SS would have help overall and offered a bit more clarity & sharpness, but you know me.
Sorry Roman, don't me to be too hard, just my 2 cents.
Look forward to more.
All the best.

Great Interaction ..... Mother is So Intense and baby So Innocent ! Do Like the Flies included. Baby is Very Sharp & Mom a little soft in comparison. Maybe DOF or Shutter Speed ? If it were my Image , I would prefer more image in front & at rear to incl. the hind legs. A Powerful Image, As it stands !!!!
Thanks for Sharing.

This photo is awesome Roman! The expression on the growling lion is incredible and so is the curious look on the youngster. I like this composition and the detail is excellent. Great Photo!!!

I also like the pose of the young one and that he/she is entirely "in-frame". Looking forward to seeing more of your wildlife work here.
