Thanks for the feedback on my last post. I've been shooting mostly landscapes this past year so here's another "birdscape" from this fall. I was wading shoulder deep for this one. For some reason I keep coming back to this image and I'm interested to see if its only a personal connection.

It's not just you. I loooove this. The low perspective and framing really make me feel like I'm there. I don't want to make a sound and risk spooking the GBH. Fantastic!

Very well composed and taken. For me this is a pleasing photograph to view. It may be just me, but it seems there is a very slight tilt to the left. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely framing and silhouette. Brings back some not so fond memories of cruising timber in places like these, and realizing I would have to find a way around to get to the other side! :frown: Still, as long as I sit here dry and warm, it is an excellent photo.

David: I like the mood of this image very much. The strong silhouette works well with the simple monochromatic feel. I'd love to see a couple different crops of this. As much as it would put the bird more in the center, I think cropping a bit from the left (Just a little), then cropping to the right edge of the closest tree on the right would create a strong image. I'm a little bothered by heavy negative space on the right. For me this image has a ton of potential. Thanks for sharing this unique birdscape !!

And an excellent birdscape it is! SO cool, framed by the big cypress, and I love that mossy stuff on the left. Beautiful composition.

David, I like how the rippled more "glarry" water leads my eye to the bird. I might experiment with a more verticle comp by cropping in from both sides, especially the right side. Not sure how much to take away, but if you experiment I am sure a great comp would present itself. Neat shot.

Aren't you afraid of gators and cottonmouths???!!! This has a great gitchy goomey feel to it! I think your comp works and helps give an idea as to the large size of the gbh. Well seen! (I could never wade in water like that!) Sharon

Absolutely love this, so serene and peaceful I'm typing quietly :jump: I really like the composition and the strong silhouette with the mist to give the background that soft feeling compared to the strong darks of the silhouetted trees and bird.

My initial reaction was that the negative space was a bit too much. However I wouldn't want to see much of it go away as it really helps to provide the sense of place necessary for this birdscape. BTW, love the subject in silhouette.

intriguing shot, David, I've looked at this for a while a couple times now, and can see why you keep coming back to it. I love the way the water leads in to the bird, the great shapes of both bird and perch coming out of the water, and the interesting bg. at first I was bothered by the weight of the heavy black trunks, but the more I look at it, the more they help ground me and place me in the scene.

I like this birdscape and how the heron is silhouetted against the light tree background and how you are lead into the image but I also like the idea of cropping that Keith has mentioned. Nice job on the birdscapes and now you have me thinking about birdscapes. Well seen and well done.
