Reflecting Back

I see from Phil's recent offering that we are still posting autumn compositions from Zion. And everyone knows by now that I have no shortage of those.

This tree only gets direct sunlight for a short time in the mid-afternoon when the autumn color is peaking, to make for a good reflection. The tree itself doesn't photograph well, but its reflection is exquisite.

Jim, I waited a long time to ensure that mine would be the last of the Zion autumn posts. Now you've sabotaged my plan, but I'll let it slide since you are the master of Zion in autumn.

I quite like your image. The composition is very solid . . . it looks to have been carefully thought out. The tree stands out nicely in the water. The color contrasts, particularly with the blue of the sky, are also very pleasing. Altogether a fine addition to your collection of images from Zion this fall.

The reflection is exquisite. A perfectly rendered composition. Very nice, indeed

Very nice, Jim--you might consider a slight crop of the top. You've basically 'grounded' the tree here and i think it would work better if the tree were just floating with no base--it would be stronger graphically. Beautiful shot!

Hmmm ... interesting, Stan. I understand the point you are making. I'm not so sure that simply cropping this image would have that effect without throwing the balance off too much in my opinion. Perhaps that effect could be better achieved from a slightly different vantage point. I'll consider this the next time I'm at this location (i.e. - next autumn most likely  ).

Nice take on the subject, Jim. And nice break from winter to see some fall gold.

I like it, Jim, although the bottom feels a bit dominant and bright and pulls my interest away from the tree reflection.

Gorgeous, Jim. Love your composition with the wonderful color. What really struck me is that this seems so crisp and clear that one feels as if he/she is right at this pool experiencing the beauty you experienced. Fantastic.

Excellent, Jim. I would agree with Michael about the bottom brightness pulling the eye a bit. Perhaps a slight burn? I like the vantage and perspective.

Great reflection indeed Jim! I agree about burning the bottom slightly. Very well seen!

Jim,

Quite a bit going on here, but the tree/reflection holds everything together nicely. The only suggestion I have would be a slight burn of the lower left corner; basically the exposed rocks. I think a little darker at the bottom will help keep the eye by the reflection where we should be looking. Minor though.
