I like the pose this bird is giving you. Nice job on the exp with detail in dark feathers and the white bill.

A noble pose indeed. Excellent job on the exposure, didn't blow the white beak and still have sufficient detail in the black head. Comp works for me. :toast:

Neat pose, nice exposure - the bill and the blacks both look good. Comp is just right for my tastes. I do see a bit of a halo around the coot.

Terrific exposure on a bird that really isn't the easiest to expose with those bright beaks and dark feathers. Always like the red eyes. Seem like an unusual pose to me, but that is what makes it more interesting. Nice work Angela!

Thanks to all. Not sure what to do now. Using ACR to initially sharpen after applying a mask to the background. Is the halo caused when I sharpen for the internet after resizing the image? I use photoshop and the unsharp mask for that according to instructions originally given to me by Ken Canning. I have been terribly unsuccessful in remidying my halos. I might even need lessons!!

Wonderful job on a bird that is always so tough for exposure. I often end up blowing out the bill when shooting these. You've got such wonderful detail in the blacks on the large version.
